Different Types of Cookware

A Guide to Different Types of Cookware: Which One Is Best For You?

Considerations to Keep in Mind

What kind of cooking or baking method do you intend to use  How often do you plan to use the cookware  How much do you plan to store your cookware  What type of burners do you have  Whether you are taking care of cookware yourself  If you are cooking on an induction stove or other types of heating.  Which cooking method requires what kind of cookware  When you think you can’t live without your new cookware, but would like to check the difference before you purchase.  2 Types of Cookware: Aluminum vs Stainless Steel  Many cooks and foodies prefer stainless steel. It is hard to beat the durability and quality.  2 Types of Cookware: Aluminum vs. Cast Iron  The materials used to make cast iron are some of the best around, with high-quality metal and a non-stick coating.

Stovetop Cookware

So you're used to using a big heavy skillet with a wide base and heavy sides, but you're a more "quick-and-easy" kind of chef and you don't need that amount of heft to use.  You're in luck because some of the more modern types of stoves come with small stoves for those who don't need to cook as fast or as large. These stoves usually come with a lightweight-weight non-stick material for the back, which you can easily wipe down. In this case, you'll usually only use nonstick for certain methods, such as browning foods or finishing up cooking.  Stovetop cookware also comes in different materials, such as cast iron, enamel, and even nonstick.

Oven Cookware

These pans are used for baking and oven cooking.  Cookies & brownies  If you are someone who is fond of baking, these are best for you as they have thick walls and have a higher heat tolerance. The preheated oven will allow you to cook these delicacies in a safe environment and will also not scorch the outside as well.  Baking pans  The best way to cook cookies and brownies is in a baking pan. In a regular pan, you end up overcooking the outside, and the inside turns out mushy. However, in a baking pan, this doesn’t happen. The best pans for baking require a sturdy silicone or nonstick surface that can handle high temperatures.  Casseroles  You can make casseroles in a regular pan too, but it’s a lot faster to place these casseroles in a casserole pan.

Pressure Cookers

A pressure cooker is another essential kitchen appliance that comes in a variety of varieties for different cooking methods. With a pressure cooker, the heat is controlled and monitored so that you can cook your food to your exact specifications.  It's perfect for non-stick cooking, stew, meat, stew, etc., which is the major advantage of pressure cookers.  Pressure Cooker Pros and Cons  Another good advantage of using a pressure cooker is that the process is easy. They are also cheaper than other types of cookware.  Pressure Cooker Basics  For the pressure cooker to be in the right shape, all the essential things must be correct. The cooker will be done when the pressure is released.

Dutch Ovens

These are the most preferred cookware in Asia. These are long-handled pots. It holds a lot of water and can even cook a whole chicken. A Dutch oven can be quite easy to use, as the ingredients are pre-heated in the pot itself. They are not suitable for baking.  Meat Cookers  These are handy in those situations where you have to quickly cook a meal. Meat cookers are usually great for things like steak, roasts, and marinades. They are more or less the same, in terms of size, but different in materials used to make them.  Stoves are usually used for lighter cooking, like baked potatoes and a hearty soup. They can also cook stir-fries and certain grilled foods. But, because they tend to burn easily, they are not suitable for low-and-slow cooking.

Roasting Pans

There are two types of roasting pans: commercial and high-performance.  Commercial  These are from professional companies like Blis and Oster. They are very thin and almost sandwich-like. When cooking, the thin sides should sit on top of a roasting pan. There is a single heating element and not a stovetop element. They can be used over a flame, but the shape prevents them from flipping properly. They are often very loud and hot.  Oster has made their own line of this type of pan.  One caution with these is that if you do burn them, they don't usually break. They can be pulled apart easily, but if they do melt, they will be very difficult to set back up properly.

Wok

A wok is basically a pan used in Chinese cooking. The wok has a long bottom and an extremely narrow top, which can be raised and lowered, allowing it to circulate heat. This gives the wok the ability to cook multiple items at once, which is essential for large quantities of cooking.  You can use a wok to cook things such as vegetables, meat, and other items that you would ordinarily use a skillet for. Cooking using a wok is typically more difficult, as it's not a standard pan shape. It's a different shape and needs to be pre-heated in the wok first before using it.  Thermometer  An electronic cooking thermometer is also commonly used. A kitchen thermometer is a common kitchen tool that is used to ensure that food is cooked properly.

Solid Cast Iron Skillets

Cooking up fast meals is essential for most people and it does not make sense to make a big investment into a large cooking pot. Pots and pans are designed with solid stoneware material that does not react with the cooking liquid and the food. These types of skillets usually have seasoned to make your food juicy and tasty.  Quadruple-Duct  This is a more expensive pan made from different layers of stainless steel. Its triple-Duct construction makes cooking smooth and easy. This is best for making caramelized food. These types of pans have a pan underneath the non-stick pan to make a rustic texture.  Flat Pans  Flat pans are non-stick pans made from metal. These are useful for cooking cakes, cookies, brownies, and other heavy foods. They are best for cooking in a slow and gentle manner.
