The Elephant and the Mouse

 The Elephant and the Mouse

Long ago and far away lived an elephant, huge and gray. As he walked beside the brook. All of the jungle shivered and shook.

One day the elephant chanced to be strolling beneath a tree. From his feet on the sandy ground, His ears caught a tiny crying sound.

"Oh please be careful!" he heard it wail, "You are standing heavily on my tail!"

The elephant looked down in surprise to see what was making the piercing cries.

Between the elephant's big gray toes, A little mouse was twitching his nose. "Please lift your foot and let me free! And you will be glad one day, you will see!"

Said the elephant, "Please do not be alarmed. A fellow creature should not be harmed." He raised his foot and the mouse ran away, Not to be seen for many a long day.

As the months passed by in the jungle heat. The elephant gently placed his feet. He kept his eyes upon the ground and didn't see the hunters gather around!

When he raised his head, it was far too late. He was caught in a net, awaiting his fate. Then a tiny voice whispered in his ear, "Don't worry, Elephant, you've nothing to fear!"

There was the mouse from months before! He bit into the net and began to gnaw. In the blink of an eye, the elephant was free. "Thank you," he said, "for rescuing me."

The moral of this story is plain to view, If you help others, then they'll help you!
