Too Many Cooks Spoil the Broth

The saying 'the more the merrier' may be true in many situations, but when it comes to the kitchen, there should be only one cook. Broth refers to a soup. When a soup is prepared by a number of cooks, it is most unlikely to be properly done. The cooks are likely to have different tastes and may disagree with each other as to what and how much of it is to be added to the soup, thus spoiling it. Thus the proverb implies that when a large number of people are made responsible for any particular job, each may have different views on how to approach the job. Consequently, the job may suffer. So it is better for one person to be assigned to it.
